Airport Security Can Pose Foot Problems

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

With increased security at the airport these days, we are putting our feet at increased risk for some foot problems.  Everyone now has to take off his or her shoes to walk through security.     Walking barefoot can cause a variety of foot problems such as athlete’s feet, bacterial infections and even warts.   Dr. Leisten recommends not walking through security without some type of barrier on your feet, such as a sock.  The thicker the sock is best, but even a nylon hose is better than nothing.   Walking around shoeless at airport security can also expose your feet to trauma caused by someone dropping a heavy bag or stepping on your unprotected foot.   If you do have to walk barefooted in the airport carry some disposable sanitizer with you to wipe your feet off before you put your shoes back on. If you think you may have picked up something during a recent trek through security, contact our office at www.diagnosticfootspecialists.com
